The Avengers film should be regarded as its own text and not just a paratext of The Avengers comic’s that came before it due to the immense amount of paratexts the 2012 film has created. The movies, TV shows, comics, toys lines, trailers, merchandise, video games, and books The Avengers created has made this film into a very different story from its comic book predecessor. Marvel set the stage for The Avengers by intertwining the stories and characters of the film together through after-credit scenes, minor rolls, and viral marketing for the films Ironman, The Incredible Hulk, Ironman 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. With these back-stories Marvel was able to create a larger superhero universe in film and a new Avenger team with different characters, locations, and events from the comics. The Avengers film has also set up a number of paratextual sequels for future release over the next three years. Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Ironman 3, Guardians of The Galaxy, and The Avengers 2 are all part of what Marvel is calling “Phase two” of there Avenger story arch in film.

This essay was well thought out and written. It was informative, giving myself who has no prior knowledge about either The Avengers comic books or film much necessary background information regarding the super hero stories. The comparison and the contrast between the comic books and the film was detailed and interesting making me question which Avengers paratext I would rather pursue first, the written form as comics or viewing the film. Giving the reader this helpful information regarding the differences between the comic books and film does a good job guiding the reader in a particular direction regarding The Avengers as an entity. It also notes as to why the changes were made, such as to create a new line of future movies, comic books, video games, and paraphernalia. Lastly I enjoyed reading your paragraphs regarding the number of paratexts that have arose since the films production. This is a very powerful aspect to note on because of the corporations newly established presence in the business industry.
The video remix for the Avengers series and film was very well done and put together. I thought that the voice over was the best aspect of the remix because it explicitly told the viewer what the remix was about, and ensured that viewer understood every point that group wanted to express. The editing of the remix was very well done, I could not tell where one clip ended and another started, so I was not distracted from the image in the video or the message from the voice recording. There is so much material to cover in 3:00 minutes, but the remix is not rushed and the argument is well put together for a viewer who has never seen the Avengers, like me.
First off, this movie was done very very well. The editing was superb and the timing of the pictures with the voice over was spot on. I think you did I good job wrapping up your research question and showing off your paratexts in a way that engaged the audience. The video remix showed all the information you covered in both the essay and digital gallery in a more presentable way. I was easily able to understand the points being made here than in the essay.
